The Università della Svizzera italiana (University of Southern Switzerland) offers, to its ca. 3’000 students, high level academic and continuing education in a cosmopolite and dynamic environment. USI distinguishes itself in the Swiss academic system through its original curricula and the international profile.
The research at the Università della Svizzera italiana is characterized by ambitious projects seeking new developments and new solutions through interdisciplinary perspectives in different areas. In line with the Swiss dual education system, USI mainly engages in fundamental research though it conducts applied research and projects. Compared to its size, the outcomes of scientific research conducted at USI speaks to a remarkable dynamism that makes the university a cluster for scientific development in the region. USI and its affiliated research institutes (Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Institute for Research in Biomedicine, Institute of Oncology Research) every year attract several funds, mainly from the Swiss National Science Foundation and the European Union.
